Ieso adds Step 2 therapy for mild to moderate mental health conditions
Expands CBT service to address the 76.6% of IAPT referrals needing low intensity treatment
Ieso Digital Health, a leader in internet-enabled cognitive behavioural therapy (ie-CBT), today announces it is launching a low intensity therapy service using a network of Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWPs). The treatment will address Step 2 conditions defined as mild to moderate depression and generalised anxiety disorder, sleep disorders and panic. This will be delivered over Ieso’s ThinkWell platform which enables patient appointments to be conducted anytime, anywhere through secure, real-time instant messaging with a practitioner. The Step 2 CBT service will be available in November of this year.
Ieso is a respected provider of Step 3 CBT to 67 NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups and is available to 12.3m people in England and Scotland. 1.6m patients are referred every year to IAPT programmes (Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies). In order to reach access targets and in line with the stepped care model 76.6% of IAPT patients start with Step 2 treatment.
Sarah Bateup, Chief Clinical Officer at Ieso said: “Many Step 2 patients currently spend long periods of time on waiting lists to start treatment. We felt we had to offer these patients something more, so we are adding this new level of treatment to our ThinkWell offering. We look forward to getting more people back to good health in the fastest time possible.”
Over half (51.2%) of Step 2 IAPT patients go on to require Step 3 therapy. Ieso believes that providing both Step 2 and Step 3 therapy via the same platform will deliver an effective and seamless experience for NHS patients and will minimise their waiting times.
Ieso is dedicated to radically improving clinical outcomes and plans to apply proprietary deep learning analytical techniques to determine which types of therapy content will deliver the best outcomes for patients. This expertise will be used to provide new digital resources for Step 2 practitioners and to ensure that ineffective content and exchanges are avoided.
PWPs are accustomed to providing treatment at this severity level and Ieso expects clinical outcomes to exceed 60%. As part of this treatment, a patient will be triaged and assigned a PWP based upon their presenting problem and severity. The patient will make an appointment with their PWP over the Ieso therapy platformfor a 60-minute assessment. This will be followed by one-to-one treatment sessions and out-of-session work completed using Ieso’s new resources. As with all therapists in Ieso’s network, Ieso PWPs will receive induction training, a rigorous, professional development programme, and on-going supervision in order to ensure they meet Ieso high standards.
