Ieso's new Step 2 therapy service now actively treating patients
Affiliate Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWPs) on-boarded to provide one-to-one cognitive behavioural therapy to individuals with one week allocation times
Ieso Digital Health, a leader in internet-enabled cognitive behavioural therapy (ie-CBT), is now actively providing one-to-one therapy to Step 2 patients with mild to moderate mental health conditions. Ieso announced the launch of its low intensity Step 2 CBT service at the Health and Care Innovation Expo in September and, since then, has rolled out a beta trial across a number of NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), while also on-boarding PWPs in order to start assigning patients and activate the service.
Today Ieso provides Step 3 ie-CBT to 74 NHS CCGs across England and Scotland as part of the IAPT (Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies) programme. However, with 76.6% of the 1.6m mental healthcare patients referred to IAPT requiring Step 2 primary care , there is a need for solutions that can help to improve access to services and reduce waiting times, as well as providing high quality 1:1 treatment for those who require it.
With the aim to reduce waiting lists and deliver an effective and seamless experience for NHS mental healthcare patients, Ieso launched its Step 2 ie-CBT to provide accessible one-to-one online appointments anytime, anywhere with its affiliate PWPs. Provided through the same trusted Ieso ThinkWell™ platform as its Step 3 ie-CBT service, confidential therapy is delivered through secure, real-time messaging and can be easily embedded into any NHS Trust’s mental healthcare offerings. Ieso plans to take its trial into more NHS CCGs over the coming weeks, with the full service being made available nationwide from January 2020.
Alex Kühne, Senior Product Manager at Ieso Digital Health, said: "After more than 18 months of planning and development it’s exciting to have launched our new Step 2 online CBT service and see our first patients being treated by our ever-growing network of affiliate Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners. With over three quarters of IAPT patients starting with Step 2 treatment and more than half (51.2% ) then going from Step 2 to Step 3 therapy, our new service has been well received by our current NHS partners, particularly as it will enable patients to easily transition between treatments when required.
“Due to our extensive experience providing Step 3 therapy, we can provide much needed end-to-end care to address Step 2 conditions, such as mild to moderate depression and generalised anxiety disorder, by quickly assigning patients to a PWP within a few days of referral. This will help reduce long waiting lists. We’re already in talks to bring more NHS CCGs on-board so together we can get more people back to good health.”
The objective of Ieso’s beta trial has been to test processes, and ensure the level of service and treatment delivered meets the company’s impeccable standards in order to improve mental wellbeing of Step 2 patients. Ieso has now tested the on-boarding and training processes for new PWPs, implemented a supervision model, and established a learning and development hub that will support and provide ongoing training for the PWPs. With these procedures tested and established, the team has started allocating patients to PWPs and carried out its first active therapy sessions. All of Ieso’s PWPs are carefully selected and receive specialist training and on-going supervision to ensure they meet Ieso’s standards in providing high-quality digital healthcare.
