Ieso Digital Health brings mental health care transformation to the U.S.

Ieso Digital Health increases access to evidence-based mental health therapy. We are launching in the United States after establishing ourselves as the leading provider of internet-enabled therapy in the United Kingdom.

Building on our success in the UK, treating thousands of patients with proven improved outcomes, Ieso Digital Health are now entering the U.S. with a mission to increase mental health access, reduce costs, improve efficiency and, most importantly, improve the quality of life for many people struggling with mental health problems in America.

In the U.S.,18% of adults have a mental illness but 25% of the population have inadequate access to mental health care. Ieso Digital Health will support existing U.S. providers to launch new digital services by training their therapists to deliver internet-enabled CBT through their online therapy software. This involves therapists delivering discreet one-to-one Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in real time in ‘virtual therapy rooms’. The service is aimed at people with common mental illnesses like depression, anxiety, phobia and OCD.

Internet-enabled therapy has many advantages to offer the U.S. market. It is discreet and flexible - patients access the sessions by computer, tablet or smartphone, at a time and place of their choosing. Because of this, text-based therapy is a good way to help hard to reach groups like people who work, people with mobility problems, or anybody who is too embarrassed to seek help. Patients can also start therapy more quickly, arranging their first session within a few working days.

Clinical evidence shows online therapy is just as effective as face to face therapy – 52% of Ieso’s online patients recover compared to 45% of face to face patients.

Chief Executive, Barnaby Perks said:

“In the U.S., a fifth of the adult population has a mental illness but a quarter of the population has inadequate access to mental health services. The U.S. really needs effective, affordable, ways to widen access to talking therapies, and our approach can be part of the solution.

“Providing therapy through typed, conversation means providers will have a written record of each therapy session. This is difficult with video therapy, which is the dominant digital model for talking therapies in the U.S., and is almost impossible with face-to-face therapy. These transcripts – which are kept as confidential as any other patient record – mean therapists can get high quality support and improve their therapy. This of course has a knock-on benefit for patient who will gain first class CBT help.

“For example, therapists will be able to identify and work on skills they need to improve, and will be more consistent in the quality of care they deliver.”
