Ieso Digital Health awarded accreditation to deliver mental health training workshops to primary care practitioners
Ieso Digital Health has gained its accreditation with the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), allowing Ieso to deliver Continual Professional Development (CPD) training workshops to GPs and other primary healthcare professionals.
Ieso Digital Health will be delivering CPD workshops twice a year to GPs and other primary healthcare professionals in Surrey, West Kent and Camden. The workshops will educate GPs on the latest mental health literature and equip them with useful tools in how to recognize and manage patients who come in presenting with mental health problems.
The first workshop will be on how to manage common mental health disorders in primary care and will provide primary care clinicians with tools, strategies and updates on the latest evidence in mental health that can be applied to patients in this setting.
The workshops have been designed by Sarah Bateup, Clinical Lead at Ieso Digital Health and a BABCP accredited cognitive behavioural therapist and lecturer. She has delivered over 25,000 hours of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to people across the UK and also provides clinical training at a number of leading UK universities. Sarah is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and has a master’s in education and teaching qualifications. She teaches clinical skills at a number of UK universities and has significant experience of teaching medical practitioners, nurses and psychologists about CBT.
Sarah commented: “There is still insufficient training in mental health care amongst primary care practitioners. It is a field which is constantly changing and developing, and Ieso Digital Health’s philosophy is to work in collaboration with other healthcare professionals to increase knowledge and broaden awareness of different psychological interventions and new models of care.”
Dr. Jill Rasmussen MBChB, FRCGP, FFPM is GP Advisor to Ieso Digital Health, and has been assisting in the development of the Ieso Digital Health CPD workshops.
Dr. Rasmussen commented: “It is estimated that at least 60% of patients who present in primary care settings will be experiencing a common mental health disorder, and providing evidence-based interventions and advice can be challenging for GPs often consultation times are only ten minutes long. Mental health services like Ieso Digital Health, which allow patients to self-refer prove to be enormously helpful for this. These training workshops will be another invaluable tool in helping ensure that patients with common mental health problems who present in primary care settings are identified and provided with appropriate and quality advice and care.”
